Tonight’s variant is inspired by the Silver Centurion Armor which made its first appearance in Iron Man #200.

As promised, the Stealth Armor Variant of our Gene Colan re-creation. Iron Man’s Stealth Armor first appeared in Iron Man #229, and that’s a long time after Mean Gene stopped working on Iron Man. Really, it’s just a fun coloring of the homage to Mr. Colan I posted yesterday. Below, I’ve included a look at the Stealth Armor from the cover of #229. Enjoy!
Wheeler and I are featured on repaneled today with our Gene (the Dean) Colan re-creation. It’s from the awesome Tales of Suspense #96 near the end (p.11) when the Grey Gargoyle story, The Deadly Victory, wraps up. Above is the original black and white art, but click on it and you’ll be whisked away to a vision of Wheeler’s colored version.
Be sure to come back tomorrow: During the rest of the week, I’ll also be sharing some different color versions of the same panel featuring Iron Man’s Stealth Armor, Arctic Armor, and Silver Centurion variations.
Here’s an old image Sarah found in her mother’s computer documents, but this one, unlike the previous crooked man piece, I do recall fairly well. The story behind it is simple. Kathy is a great admirer of Tamasaburo, having seen him perform when she was in Japan. She had a magazine (I wish I could remember its title) with a haunting full-page and closeup color photograph of the actor in makeup. She asked me to make a painting based on it, and this is the humble result. The work is rife with glaring mistakes, but since it was done as a labor of love and since it’s no longer in our possession I harbor a warm and indulgent feeling toward it.
